Greetings, Pope People!
We are beyond excited to bring the wonderful (and smelly!) world of Shrek to life with you! Below, you will find the vocal ranges, character breakdowns, and monologues for your initial audition.
Some characters are not as prominent in the TYA version, but this is a good guide.
You will be asked to slate and perform two cuts from the music provided, and one monologue. Please prepare any additional cuts/monologues you may be interested in as you could be asked to sing/read again. If this happens, we will give you some time to go over anything new, and we completely understand if you aren’t familiar with the new material.
Later this week, we will add an audition dance video. Please learn this sequence and be ready to dance in a group on your audition day. Have FUN with the dance and don’t feel pressured to perfect it.
As you fill out your audition form, please be HONEST about the roles you will accept. This hilarious and heart-warming piece has MANY featured roles and a very busy ensemble. We would love a big cast!
Finally, we are all SO honored to be working at Pope! Just a reminder…we prefer to cast on talent and what we see on audition day, regardless of grade or who knows who. Our mission is to offer a fair opportunity to everyone who auditions, to show us their VERY best. So, go for it!!
See you in the swamp!

Calendar
Please be honest about conflicts. You'll find the Pope Theater calendar which includes rehearsal and performance dates here: Calendar; Anything labeled SM is Spring Musical. Please take the time to compare this to your family calendar/sports calendars, etc. We do our best to list all of our rehearsal, set build/strike, and performance dates ahead of time, but reserve the right to adjust as needed. Many of you will be singing in most group numbers and conflicts will affect casting.
Fees
The show fees are $340 for actors and $190 for tech & middle school students and are due January 3.
Volunteers
Parents, when the cast and crew are announced, you'll receive more detailed information from your production manager about volunteer opportunities. Please be on the look out for emails.
Audition Process
For those who haven’t worked with us before, we are always ON YOUR SIDE! We know that auditions/performances can be intimidating, and we truly just want you to leave the experience feeling that you did your best.
Initially, we will call you in individually to sing and read. After we have seen everyone in your time group, you will all come back in to do the audition dance in a group. We reserve the right to ask you to read or sing additional materials, understanding that we know you may or may not have prepared what we ask. We want to gather as much information in the initial audition as possible.
Callbacks, should we need them, will be December 16. Please reserve this date and note that NOT everyone will get a callback. This does NOT mean you are not cast. We may have already seen all we needed in initial auditions.
Once the cast and crew list is announced, we will have a read-through on December 17. This is an ALL CALL. Please reserve this date as you will get lots of important information, as well as having the opportunity to get the flow of the production. We will be happy to (as best we can) answer all of your questions on that date.
